I wouldn't give Kelley an INV1, Erik talked about her being one of the people on Y'mra S'bor he's willing to work with in the future. She probably had the same visibility as Caryn.

Caryn actually made posts this round. Being mentioned by one person is not enough to save someone from an invis. If more people talked about Kelley I'd bump her to an UTR1
did he talk really in depth about her???

Rob wasn't INV, he had a goofy fuckup moment during Ymra's counting part of the challenge, signalling his inevitable downfall of them all later on. UTRN2
Kelley was INV imo but I'm behind on Erik's confessionals

visibility = the numbers
since that was rob's only ~airtime~ in the episode with no confessional updates and no impact on the round, I went with 1

If Kelley made it to UTR she's UTR1 tbh
And I'm not sure if Kim was actually a 5.
Monica's edgic journey so far is amazing. Sue is trying to collect all the edits

I'll change her to a 1 if you want. You might be right as she was not super relevant to the round. I thought her confessional was long enough to merit a 2 so I went with that.
The amount of talking about a person is also a factor of visibility. Kim posted enough to be a 4 but she was the talk of TC so I went with 5. I'll change it though

Nah if you think there was enough other people focus to merit a 5 just leave it. I still don't quite get the visibility stuff

already changed anyways
it's always hard to call but the fact kim was barely here for the entire scrambling phase makes me fine with a 4

A lot of big characters will get 4s and even 3s in their boot episode to make it more of a blindside to the audience/fans.
Josh got a 3 last season in his boot ep

So I have no life and because Jonas only finishes half of the things that he starts, I decided to take it upon myself to go back and edgic SI8. Only about five of you will care and I'm sorry to Sydney for interupting this current season's thread, but I don't feel like this actually warrants it's own new topic... and I want people to actually see this because it was hard work to comb through everything so I'm not gonna go put this on the board for Morocco either. I will say that doing this from memory would have yielded some wildly different results lol...
My method was to look at the commentary on each round in last season's Waffle Island. By taking the number of mentions a player got in each thread, I was able to roughly figure out what their visibility would probably have been for that episode. To determine tone, both in individual episodes and overall, I considered a variety of factors including the material in a player's confessional (were they heroic? villainous? someone to root for? a hypocrite?) and what the PWs general attitudes towards them were. For instance Jean-Robert was a big fan favorite of a lot of people last season because of his great confessionals and underdog story. Although his confessionals were often snarky, they were usually justified by the behavior of the people that he bashed, so he earned himself a few P episodes throughout the season, particularly during the Reject Tribe's losing streak, and I gave him P tone overall. The actual rating (CP, OTT, MOR, UTR) was gathered in a similar way, by looking at confessionals and PW commentary on their gameplay/story.
This is what I came up with:
Some of my thoughts looking at the finished product/highlights:
|
* Like I said, this would have been much different if I'd done this from memory. I actually had spoken with Bill before I started this and we tried to think about how each player would be portrayed on the show. Some of our thoughts were spot on but others, upon further examination, were quite different. Since edgic is really about identifying the winner's story, the most important edit was obviously Yul's. Still, I needed to consider how he fit with the other edits as well. For that reason I took the most liberties with Yul's edit. It's still a pretty accurate representation of how the PWs (the audience) perceived him throughout the game, but I still had to make Yul fit with a "winner's edit." If I'd simply slapped some ratings onto 14 episodes (I abridged some episodes together in order to fit the CBS format,) I would have personally made him come across as much more devious and villain-like, and he definitely had the content for it in his confessional, but most people watching the game unfold seemed to see his gameplay as very clinical and calculated, which to me ended up translating into a minimal need for any tone.
* Something that I thought was funny, was that the Final Three were often the least mentioned players in the entire cast, episode by episode, in Waffle. There were exceptions at certain key points of course, but overall the PW's seemed to be more interested in what the rest of the players were doing. I do think that to an extent, Morocco's season long arc would have focused a lot on why Ken lost rather than how the Final Three got to the end together (it was a really random group of people to be sitting together at FTC.) I believe that the biggest justification for Ken losing is that he underestimated Yul. Ken's journey pretty much translated edgically into everything that you'd look for in a typical, Type-A winner. Ken's blindside in the Finale would be huge. For this reason, Yul's story really only picks back up at the tail-end of the season, but it's nonetheless a fascinating one.
* I felt weird giving myself the most individual P episodes overall, because I didn't want to be biased, but it seemed to fit so I went with it. I think as individuals we think to remember things as they were for us, obviously, but not necessarily as it came across? I thought about Sausage and game strategies 24/7 while I was playing the game, and I was actually really disappointed looking back with how much fluff I managed to produce in my confessional... I could have done so much more but hey, what you see is what you get and that's what I used. Even my big moments (winning Captain, finding the Idol, my one sided feud with Bill) mostly seemed to lack the complexity that I could have given them. While I was skeptical when people called me the sweetheart of the season (I hadn't been referred to as that in ORGs in years,) I would say that it's probably the best way to characterize Purple Kelly's "role" in Morocco.
* Betsy and Ken are likable people, and I could have probably made both of them more P (just as I could probably have made Yul more N) but I went with mostly neutrals for them, particularly Betsy, because they are both very analytical players. You can be analytical and P of course, but they didn't really have a slew of sentimental moments that I could isolate and translate into clearly positive episodes.
* Eddie was a lot more negative than I anticipated. His downfall would probably have been TV gold. His "bullying" of the Rejects and that coming back to haunt him and his allies at the merge was phenomenal to chart.
* One of the biggest surprises for me was really getting a grasp on Angie's VERY short lived arc. I was initially planning on making her OTTM but talk about a sad story... I think Brett said it best when he called her a lamb in a lion's den. I don't think that she ever stood a chance in the game, but the "That's So Provo" incident with Peter was both hilarious and really heartbreaking at the same time. I want to know WTF Jonas was on when he gave her an OTTN. Was she out of her element? Sure! Did she deserve all the flack that she got from her tribe? Heck no if you ask me!
* The game also seemed to more or less happen around Charlie. Aside from being a Captain and him making it to the Final Three he wasn't really involved with or pivotal to a lot of the things that went down. Even his Idol had practically no impact on the overall season.
* Marisa was a lot more prominent than I expected. She inspired so much PW hatred lol. I can't imagine the joy that must have been felt during the Sausage Link that transpired the round that she left.
* As much as I was a princess and ragged on Bill and his sneaky gameplay, I thought that his only real N moments were when he was strategically inept and hurting his own game. That's really funny to me considering the fact that he was labeled the villain of the post-merge.
* J'Tia was lower key than I expected, but when she shined, she definitely shined bright. Her relationship with Eddie was particularly fascinating, but so was her feud with Abi, her partnership with Peter and her secret alliance with Ken.
