September 22nd, 2004.

10 years ago today... almost to the hour. I'm pretty sure it came on at 8 but don't quote me.

A show aired on ABC, a show about a plane crash on an island... that's all anybody knew, and that was enough to get people interested.

We all watched, and our lives were all changed in some way. It was a pretty wild and crazy 6 years after that and if it weren't for this show we probably wouldn't be here today.... well not specifically here on this website anyway.

I know we have a lot of newer members now and a lot of them might not have even watched the show but this group of people used to come from a LOST board on TV.com and that's where we all met each other to talk about LOST... Me, Curtis, Boc, Paul, Vernon, Henry... uhh probably some more than that.

So what are your thoughts on the show after all these years? Still great? Has it aged well? Do you think there should ever be any more media relating to the show in the future? A comic book? A movie?... Darlton seems to think they might Reboot the show someday but I think that might just be too soon for that.

Feel free to talk about your life when the show started, or how you initially got into it.

I was and still am a huge LOTR fan, having seen the extended versions of those movies more times than should be reccomended, but as it ended in 2003 I was feeling empty... what to do now!? No more LOTR movies! That's when I found out that Dominic Monohan was going to be on something else... Merry? On TV? I have to watch this. I saw the trailer for the show and was hooked.

I liked Alias, and this was by the same guy... and Merry from LOTR is in it? Sign me up!

I watched the pilot and the show was beyond what I could have imagined... a weird island, a plane crash, some weird noises in the jungle. A recording playing on a loop for 16 years. What the hell is this show? I just had to find out!

I know I was probably beyond obsessed with the show throughout it's run... I never missed a single episode as it aired and was adamant to watch every one and absorb as much of it as I could. When the DVDs came out I had to buy them, I had to watch them again... it was crazy but I loved every minute of it. I bought as many action figures as I could, and I have all the terrible LOST tie-in novels... during it's run I joined 3 different LOST forums and chatted about the show on all of them! I was chatting on Lostpedia, and when the show came on Channel 4 I went on those UK boards and chatted again about them there, because it was new again. From there I gained a lot of UK friends and I still have a lot of british typing quirks from all of that.

Then I joined TV.com around season 3 and met krkv6 and docyoda and flowsta and the rest is history.

=======

Does anyone know a way to livestream this sort of thing? It'd be really cool to have like a livestream chat of the Pilot... or like have a skype call while watching it?... maybe record a commentary for it for everyone to hear in the future?

Anyway, LOST was the last show that I actually managed to catch every single week, on time. I've always been terrible at that, and it's the one show I managed to overcome my inability to remember its TV time. But I haven't rewatched since it ended and I kind of don't want to yet.

The final season's shittier parts still spoil the bunch for me a bit, and when I rewatch I want that to have worn off.

Exposé is a very important episode for me. It marked the first time I fell in love with an irrelevant, slightly annoying female character. Nikki <3

Expose was a good stand alone episode. I enjoyed it and I actually thought the characters were good ideas... sadly most everyone else couldn't get past the fact that they hadn't appeared before the 3rd season and acted like they had caught the writers in a lie "these guys weren't real be serious darlton" but I was just like... who is to say they weren't there?... there were 48 people in that group and only half of them were ever seen on screen.

Though them having Sawyer be the voice of the audience's disapproval of the characters was a bit annoying. "Who the hell is Nikki?"

I liked it in theory, I just hated the characters and execution.

this

Also because I still remember almost every minutiae of the show due to years obsessing over it with all my floppy frends on FI. Even 4+ years later

A mass weekly/semi-weekly rewatch would be fun though. I'd be up for that even tho we all know we'd cbf after like one season

I knew Matthew Fox from Party of Five. And the whole premise looked interesting. So I checked it out. I was hooked by the end of the first hour. My very first ORG was a Lost game that was advertised at tv.com. :P

Not before or since have I obsessed over a TV show as much as I did with Lost.

Can't believe it is 10 years tbh. That's pretty crazy.

I have made a half hearted attempt at rewatching only recently. I got up to Walkabout and haven't got around to continuing so far. Here are my revised ratings for those episodes I have watched, along with a short review of each one!

Pilot P1: 8/10 - "Still stands up as a great way to start a series"
Pilot P2: 9/10 - "I love that scene where they pick up Rousseau's transmission"
Tabula Rasa - 2/10 - "Really boring...I can't remember what happened tbh. Some guy died, right? Kate was revealed to have done something, and we were supposed to care but I don't think anyone ever did."
Walkabout - 10/10 - "That ending. Even though I know it's coming, it still gives me shivers."

I don't know what to think of this show even now. It had plenty of amazing moments, but it also had a bad tendency to rely on shock value now that I think of it. Particularly with its tendency to throw in a new mystery every now and then which would never come up again.

I know that Darlton tried to claim that the characters were the focus all along after the criticism of the last season, but that just isn't true. The characters were well done and the flashbacks were an integral part of the show, but they weren't the main attraction to viewers ever. Everyone fell in love with the mystery, and in the end it was dismissed as irrelevant.
