I'm not into Harry Potter at all so there's a 0% chance I play this but I do think it looks like a pretty solid game. Pretty standard AAA game but it looks well made

It's just like...there are so many other things that could be boycotted for equally valid reasons that are consumed without question every single day. yeah for me if i buy the game its because im a fan of the universe of HP, i enjoyed reading the books, i enjoyed watching the movies, so if this game is a way for me to recapture that feeling of enjoyment, thats a good enough reason to get and play the game. whether that results in a JK rowling getting money while she eats babies for dinner on the side isnt something thats in my control

100% I am right there with you

Universal Studios for example here in LA is a fun theme park now with a Harry Potter land. Where is the line here. I shouldn't go ride the ride or buy a ticket to the park?

I like the streamers that have been turning it into a fundraiser and giving back. I think that's the best way to handle it to bring some good, rather than just boycott something that I don't feel like is actually pushing back against JK in any real tangible way.

I mean if it affected you directly I'm sure you'd feel differently and it wouldn't be a worry of some sort of slippery slope overboycotting.

And hey I don't buy Nike or Apple or chic FIL a either. And it was pretty easy most of that was just happenstance and I'm just fine.

But this is a hard pass for me. I get the excitement, heck, I'd have been excited too five+ years ago, but Joanne going full TERF really soured me on all things HP. I agree with Mal that when this sort of rhetoric doesn't directly affect a person, it's probably a bit easier to contemplate the noble aims of tolerance for certain offensive speech in the marketplace of ideas.

Whether she wants to admit it or not (and she has shown repeatedly she won't), the talking points Rowling and her ilk continue to promote are a huge reason why it gets less and less safe to be a trans person on this planet year after year.

But the game is out, and it's clearly going to be a success, so if you can still find joy in the wizarding world, play away, no judgment!

I played for 45 min so far. Haven’t really gotten into it yet to give a real review

Side note apparently there’s a trans person in the game and I’m very interested to see how they are portrayed
