Episode 12: Target Eliminated
Ok so for the first time ever I think I’m going to just make the round write up about what happened last night because I already covered in detail what happened in the first half of the round and enough happened yesterday to deserve its own write-up. So I was at a baseball game pretty much all day. I came around at about 5 and knew the 2 objectives.
1. Get the alliance Rita and I had talked about formed.
2. Guarantee a split on two of the 3 Sewer Rat Contingency.
I worked on the first one which required me to talk to Natalie and Jeremiah. I had already talked to both of them about forming an alliance with us 3 and Rita but Rita’s addition of Jenna meant that I had to run it past both of them. Both are pretty slow to respond or aren’t always around but I couldn’t advance to the next phase of my plan until both were informed. While I’m waiting for responses from them, Hope, Woo, and Rachel are making small talk with me which doesn’t really go anywhere. I asked Hunter if there were any updates about the vote, hoping he organized something regarding the split but expecting full well the underwhelming answer I got. He did nothing. He’s a solid ally and a smart guy from when I’ve talked to him but he just is so afraid of the smallest amount of visibility. Eventually, Natalie and Jeremiah both responded and so I quickly updated them about me talking to Rita, her wanting to bring in Jenna, and our alliance being set. Both were happy to hear it and so now I just had to talk to Rita so that we could make a group chat.
I messaged Rita and updated her on me telling Natalie about what we had talked about and her being down. I had also told Rita that I would talk to Jeremiah and make a judgment call based on the convo so I played it up like I got a good vibe and that he didn’t have anything else going on. So they were both good and then I asked if she talked to Jenna. I wanted her to do this because I trusted Jenna least due to us never really talking game. I was mildly annoyed when she said she didn’t because I just did all that and she couldn’t even talk to one person but I guess I can’t expect anyone else in this game to do anything anymore. It’s all on my shoulders. She said she would talk to Jenna if I wanted her to and so I just let her because I “had to go eat dinner.” Jenna messaged me at literally the same moment so I just told her I had to go to dinner, hoping Rita would get her on board quickly.
Suddenly, I’m added to a group chat by Natalie. I had told her that I would make one after I talked to Rita but I guess the chess piece got tired of waiting. Can’t say I’m too disappointed because it keeps the visibility off of me but I just hope Jenna knew what she was being added to. I have a feeling Natalie and Rita were coordinating so it wasn’t too big of a deal. Soon after though, Natalie adds us to a group chat with Hope and Woo as well which we had talked about doing earlier in the round. She was messaging both chats worrying about the deadline approaching quickly so it was clear that she was really panicking. She recognized that her and I had put ourselves in the middle which was my intention but she was being stupid and trying to rush an hour before the deadline what needs more time and finesse to develop well. Either way, she was the one making herself the target so I didn’t care too much.
The Hope/Woo group chat is pretty dead but the Jeremiah-Jenna-Rita-Natalie-me one (which hereafter will be called Anaira) is booming about the vote. Basically they’re asking if we can trust
Mushu to split the vote. Now this is where things start to get complicated. My first objective this round was this alliance so mission accomplished there and now it was starting to collide with my second objective (splitting the vote) which is even better. They all wanted to work with
Mushu on this for a 5-4 split to guarantee that one of the Sewer Rat Contingency went home. It was my dream. All that we had to do was actually coordinate with those 4 and guarantee that it all goes down.
While all of this is happening, I’m talking to Hunter. Now, I have gotten VERY close to Hunter this merge. There’s only so many good conversations you can have with somebody and even solid game talks before you want to work with them. And I’ve particularly gotten into it with Hunter because, going into this merge, Jaison and I were tightly aligned with Hope and Woo and that was my only real connection other than Natalie so I assumed that
Lóng and
Mushu would work together. I’ve been able to branch out and make relationships with
Anaira members as well so that isn’t the case exactly but it doesn’t take away from the effort I have put into forming a bond with Hunter. So now we are pretty tight and I’ve basically shared most of what I’ve been doing with him. I need a new closest ally now that Jaison is out. It can’t be Natalie because she’s not around enough and is too in it for herself. It can’t be Hope because I can’t help but feel like she has allegiances elsewhere and she’s also a little too much like me in that she gets paranoid easily where I need a more calm ally. I think Hunter fits the bill well.
Anyway, so I’m talking to Hunter while my alliance chat is discussing splitting the vote with
Mushu and I’m updating him on all this and telling him that he has to get
Mushu organized and that we have to be ready to split because the deadline is approaching quickly. He was updating me before my new alliance chat was made about Hope having been told that Jenna was the target of the Sewer Rat Contingency this round and about him having told Rita this which I saw as a positive because it would only more firmly plant
Anaira on our side this round. But then he started to get weird vibes from Jeremiah who he never really trusted and who wasn’t actually saying what he wanted to happen this round. Then Jeremiah apparently told Hope to vote for Jenna.
This was the sign that I needed. I started to put the pieces together regarding the Jaison boot earlier in the round and I had basically come to the conclusion that there had to be a rat but that it probably wasn’t all 3 Anaira. Rita has never seemed particularly close to the Sewer Rats and Jenna was my first thought but then she was getting targeted by them. All of that as well as Jeremiah now targeting Jenna to Hope and him acting weird last round when I told him the vote was for Kenny was enough evidence that he was the rat. But there was nothing he could do if our split plan worked. We had to get the 5-4 split down perfectly and put him in the 5 so that the best he could do was flip which would force a 4-4-4 vote and we would control the revote. So he’d either have to flip and expose himself for no reason or stay hidden and watch an ally go home.
Hunter and I had figured it out and had guaranteed a way to get this vote off without a hitch. I had underestimated the Jeremiah chess piece a bit. I was convinced that he was just one that I could completely control and an easy pawn for me in the grand scheme of things. But it turns out he’s trying to play both sides a bit. I still chalked it up to his not being particularly bright though. Maybe he was just staying loyal to his original tribe because he doesn’t know any better. But either way we were going to stop him. And then he pulls something that kind of put everything into perspective. He told the Anaira-
Lóng group chat about the Sewer Rat Contingency pulling him into an alliance with them and Hope/Woo with their plan being to vote for Jenna. He convinced everybody that we have to drop the split plan because we can’t rely on Hope and Woo and we have to try to secure Hunter and Rachel who are in the middle and just all vote for one person.
NOW, I know this isn’t happening. Hope and Woo are 100% down for the split plan. They just have to know who to vote for. Jeremiah had an ulterior motive here to protect his Sewer Rats but doing so required the vote not to be split. He must know that Hope and Woo aren’t voting with the Sewer Rats because otherwise, he should have just let the vote split, let them flip, and let Jenna go home. He must know that they are not flipping and he knows his buddies are screwed. So he’s either attempting to throw Hope and Woo under the bus to make one of them the last minute target, saving the Sewer Rats. OR he’s trying to force all of the votes (us 5 as well as Rachel/Hunter) onto one person so that the Sewer Rats can idol that person and blindside someone AGAIN. I tell Hunter all of this and how we have to stop it from happening. At the time, I ruled out the first possibility but, in hindsight, the first one is just as possible. However, if that was Jeremiah’s plan, it quickly backfired because, while my alliance no longer trusted Hope and Woo, they weren’t ready to target them and still wanted a Sewer Rat gone.
Hunter now became pivotal to my alliance because he was the swing vote in their minds. He and Rachel could either side with Hope and Woo and vote for Jenna or side with us and vote for one of the Sewer Rats. Jeremiah said that he knew about the Jenna plan (which he did but he also knew Hope and Woo weren’t actually buying it). We basically all agreed that we needed Hunter and Rachel to vote with us and so Jenna should work on him and Jeremiah should tell him that he would be seventh in any of Mushu’s plans due to Hope and Woo’s apparent alliance with the Sewer Rats. As people started talking to Hunter and Rachel, they were feeling shady about the two of them which I think was bound to happen no matter what and started debating switching the target and all this other stuff but they came back to the realization that, regardless of the target, if Hope and Woo are voting for Jenna, then we need Hunter and Rachel with us.
WHILE ALL OF THIS IS HAPPENING, I am telling Hunter about what Jeremiah’s plan MUST be. He is trying to force all of the votes onto Kenny so that he can idol and they can blindside whoever they want. Hunter agreed that this made the most sense based on Jeremiah telling our alliance last minute about the Hope/Woo voting Jenna thing. So my way around it was for Hunter and Rachel to agree to vote for Kenny and to agree to be on our side. But that those 2 and all of
Mushu needed to actually vote for Neal. This would prevent Kenny’s idol from cancelling all of the votes. It would only cancel 5 and 4 would still land on Neal, leading to a split vote and a Neal blindside. Hunter agreed and I didn’t have any time to do damage control with Hope and Woo so I told Hunter to tell them that he’s getting the info from me and that they need to trust me. I really thought that this was our big chance to stop Jeremiah.
What it came down was Hunter agreeing to the split like we talked about and wanting to make a chat with everybody so that we could coordinate the split. For some reason, he suggested they exclude Jeremiah which was probably stupid because it alerted Jeremiah that Hunter was onto him but not too big of a deal. So my alliance wanted to go into this chat to convince the
Mushu 4 (or at least Rachel and Hunter) to vote for Kenny and us to vote for Neal. But then we would actually vote Kenny to avoid Hope and Woo being able to team up with the Sewer Rats and eliminate Jenna with 5 votes. But I relayed all of this to Hunter who relayed it to
Mushu and said that they had to not vote Kenny and instead vote Neal. This would guarantee that the vote was still split because the real threat was not Hope and Woo voting for Jenna but was actually Jeremiah being a double agent and having an idol played on Kenny. This would deal with that problem and not the fake Hope/Woo one.
We made the chat and everyone agreed to the split, which no one had any intentions of actually honoring. I was expecting the vote to go through and everyone to be blindsided except for Hunter and I. And that was almost the case. My alliance was shocked that
Mushu had lied like we had and that the vote did actually get split on Neal.
Mushu was blindsided that
Anaira had lied and that 5 votes were put onto Kenny (or at least they were if Hunter didn’t tell them). The Sewer Rat Contingency was blindsided that the vote got split and that one of their own went. BUT Hunter and I were also blindsided when no idol got played on Kenny. WHAT?!?!?! Why was Jeremiah trying to force the votes onto Kenny if he wasn’t going to play an idol? What was the point of telling the alliance about this other than to throw Hope and Woo under the bus for the future? Ultimately everything went according to my plan except that Kenny didn’t idol which made
Mushu seem like the bad guys instead of the heroes who split the vote and saved Jenna. Not my intention and my alliance was mad but it wasn’t at me so I didn’t care too much. It just meant they and I had to do a little damage control next round.
But what of the curious case of Jeremiah Wood? What were his actually intentions this round? Was he actually a double agent mastermind? We’re left with 3 options.
1. Mastermind- Was working with the Sewer Rats and attempting to play all sides. Tried to force all votes onto Kenny and to throw Hope/Woo under the bus. Then an idol could be played on Kenny, they could blindside someone, and Hope and Woo would have targets for the future. This was my assumption at first and the one that I hinged the vote and all of my planning on. But the lack of an idol play implies that this is not the case.
2. Smart player- Not a mastermind. Was working with the Sewer Rats (or even may not have) and decided to reap the benefits of this round. It would be an easy vote but he could secure a target on Hope and Woo for the future by telling us about their plan to blindside Jenna. It would solidify our alliance and would result in
Mushu being targeted going forward (or even at this vote). However, his excessive scrambling to put all of the votes onto Kenny imply that this is not the case.
3. Lovable lug and concerned ally- Jeremiah is the same not so bright player I thought that he was. He was never a double agent and maybe just slipped a little too much last round which led to Kenny idoling. He genuinely heard that the Sewer Rats and Hope/Woo were targeting Jenna and was concerned for our alliance. He waited until the last minute to tell us because he was still debating a bit but ultimately trusted us more than the Sewer Rats and was genuinely trying to force the votes onto Kenny to avoid Hope and Woo blindsiding Jenna, which is what he legit thought was going to happen. He wasn’t drawing votes for an idol play and was trying to secure Hunter and Rachel because we needed them and the votes not to be split to guarantee Jenna’s safety. He was just as baffled by last round’s results as the rest of the alliance and is now mad at
Mushu for a reason. In short, Hunter and I overplayed the fuck out of this round and it’s going to lead to
Mushu having a huge target now. This is sadly the most likely option at this point. We gave him more hype than was actually there, overthought everything, and now
Mushu is gonna pay for it due to my miscalculation. Which kinda sucks but also, they don’t see it that way. They still think I saved them last round, which is what I WAS trying to do (I was just wrong but I wasn’t lying). So ultimately if
Mushu does all go, I think that’s 4 jury votes for me. It’s not optimal but 4 jury votes are nice, especially after MY miscalculation is what landed them on the jury.
Anyway, we will see what ultimately happens. I don’t fully trust Jeremiah at the moment but I do think it an overreaction on my part last round. I’d rather be safe than sorry anyway and I do think I can get
Mushu out of the hole I put them in so no harm, no foul for the time being. I’ll update tomorrow morning with some happenings for this round (which let's face it isn't much because everything will just happen one hour before the vote) but I wanted to close out last round before I went to bed. Things are finally getting interesting and, for the first time all game, I think I’m finally in a VERY good spot with a solid chance of winning. Of course it’s still for Jaison and I will prevail for him. Iceman out.
