After fleeing the endless plains of The Serengeti; Lex, Brett, and ten new castaways have found themselves stranded in the thick jungles of Mexico. Surrounded by forgotten cultures and abandoned ruins, it's here where we'll be hosting our next installment of Sausage Island.
Thousands of years prior, the Aztecs celebrated a festival honoring their dead ancestors. These celebrations grew over time and became the Day of the Dead festival as we know it today.
Sausage Island will pay respect to such celebrations by honoring its own dead. Previous players looking for a chance at redemption will mix with new blood eager to prove themselves for the first time.
The Returnees
These ten players appeared as recent as last season and as early as our very first season, four years ago this month. All ten were voted out pre-jury - some due to rotten luck or a twist that didn't go their way, others due to mistakes they may have made. No matter what their situations, they're all back and ready to prove themselves as they tackle their second chance at Sausage Island.
The Newbies
They're joined by ten new players, each one brand new to the series. All ten are eager to make a name for themselves and to avoid the same fate that the returnees met in their original seasons. Will a returnee avoid their same mistakes and claim victory? Or will a newbie snatch the crown on their first attempt? Time will tell!
The theme of this season is Day of the Dead, and we're doing more to celebrate it than just resurrecting a handful of past players. It's time to introduce the first twist of the season...
Located just off the coast of the jungle we'll be residing in, Isla Muertos is a place you do not want to visit.
When a player is voted out of this game, they will head to Isla Muertos. Much like Redemption Island, whoever survives this island will re-enter the game at a certain point and be back in the running for the title of Sole Survivor.
Every round, a duel will commence between the three players currently residing on Isla Muertos. Unlike Redemption Island, only ONE player will win this duel. That player is safe and will continue living on Isla Muertos, but they will also have a choice. The three will attend a miniature Tribal Council, where the winner of the challenge will have the sole vote to boot one of the other two players, sending them out of the game for good. The two surviving players will remain on Isla Muertos and await their next opponent, while the players in the game can only speculate on who may still be alive on it. Communication between players on Isla Muertos and players still in the game is forbidden.
This puts a big spin on the Redemption Island format. Surviving Isla Muertos is not just about challenge strength. Instead, you are very much still playing the game as you'll need to rely on your social, strategic, and communication skills to continue to survive. Deals will certainly be made and broken, and the dynamic will no doubt get complicated as your allies and enemies alike will join you on the island.
With Isla Muertos in play, a second or third chance will be provided for each castaway sent there. We'll see who makes the most of it in due time, but for now, head on over to Challenge Beach for your first Immunity Challenge shortly!
