There was a disaster at sea on Earth in the old days. A ship they called the Titanic. It sank, and they didn't have enough lifeboats for everybody. They came up with what I believe to be a fair system which would work for us. They gave women and children priority. I...I think we need to do the same. Little Aldo, where is he? He is the only child here, he must get the first suit.

But a child needs a guardian too. I will take this burden upon myself if everybody allows it...that means i'll have to go with him, so I'll need a suit too, naturally...

A child is a precious thing, and while I don't want little Aldo to die, I don't appreciate a man trying to use a baby as an excuse to live out of cowardice.

Is anyone truly surprised by Elias' behavior here? One cannot expect more from someone who prided themselves of being from Callisto.

I'm an author and TV personality from Callisto, not a soldier. As such, can you blame me for reacting a little crazy when I am thrown into a situation like this?

I'm only human. And like most humans, I have an involuntary response built in by evolution to be fearful of danger. Fear is good, it is what keeps you alive. I fear fearlessness.

It is not a trait to be admired. Fear keeps you alert, keeps you cautious. Fearless people make rash decisions. Think, for instance, of the experiment conducted by the PhoboDeiman military in the civil war, who managed to block fear receptors to the brain on a select group of highly trained soldiers. The result; A special squad of fearless soldiers, who were promptly massacred in battle because they didn't bother seeking cover on the battlefield.

The gods gave us fear for a reason. I imagine a great many of us here are just as scared as me, they are just hiding it better.

Should I hang for that?

No. You should hang for submitting to my father's wishes and using my brother's death as a scapegoat for his agenda. He wanted to help the people on Io, keep the peace, and you and your fucking media friends used him as a martyr to further ostracize the lower class on Callisto.
