Chaos had reared its ugly head sooner than anyone could've expected. The mission had escalated from a humdinger to a genuine doozy in no time flat. Faced with the possibility of nine deaths, panic was natural, nearly inevitable. I tried to put on a brave face, but deep down inside, I felt the fear.

Let's remain calm here, folks. We can figure a way outta this if we put our heads together. I'm sure of it.

I have led a great many successful investigations in my day, and believe I can do the same here, despite this...rough start. Am I the man for the job? It's not my place to decide. But my hat is in the ring, in any case.

Hell.. theres at least 15 of y'all that I don't even know y'alls names... Lets just all put who we think is useful at the top and who we dont at the bottom. Dont get yalls head twisted up in a poop loop figuring out which of us you want to die. It doesnt have to be like that!

The old broad has the right idea.

While you comrades may not know me well, I have served in the military and have experience in leading armies

Tell us about yourself then, Veleriya. Why are you here? What drives you? Which military are you from?

*whips out notepad expectantly*

Myself, while I would certainly be influenced by group input, would make the final call when it comes to the items and other important decisions of the like. This certainly would turn some off, as democracy is an ever-enticing prospect. However, in situations like this, democracy can be deadly. Just ask my old partner Hughes.

A good mission needs a strong head. Sometimes your subordinates will respect you for it, other times they may loathe you. But it's what's necessary.

Elias Baines was the kinda man you'd see runnin' from a murder scene with someone's wallet in his grasp. A vulture, a coward, call him what you want.

Of course, it may have been a death wish. If it was, I would tip my hat to him. But it remained to be seen with that turtlenecked stiffl.

When I awoke from my brief rest, I shook my head at the discussion I was hearing.

Elias was a scoundrel, sure. But goddamnit, he was able-bodied, and brought ideas to the table. Mostly terrible ideas in all likelihood, but ideas nonetheless. Ideas that challenged the danger of the dreaded groupthink pitfall.

The ones we needed to be rid of were those who had nothing to contribute to the case. There was still time to see who those forsaken nine would be, but it would become apparent enough in time. Patience was key.

So this is what we've come to. Basing who deserves to live based on whose likable and who is not. I am on the side of choosing people who aren't going to hold us back. I don't know what is going on but I find it unlikely this is going to be our only hardship on this God forsaken ship

From the sounds of things, those who you would deem capable entirely stem from Lindberg's crew. Unity is key here, son.

Better the devil you know than the devil you don't, I always say. Those who would carry themselves as such apparent scoundrels may not have my respect, but nor would they have my suspicion.

I was suggesting they might take it personally and decide to punish the rest of us.

Im thinking this is either a test created to divide us or a mechanism designed to weed out the ones who are less interested in finding out what happened.

I would not think the gods would try to divide us, unless a far more sinister force is at play here, but I sincerely doubt that. Either way, I agree with you that it seems like the gods are putting us through some sort of test.

I am thinking it more likely that it is a test of resolve.

Those that are willing to go the extra mile will continue, the others that are less interested will perish.

A group of uninterested killers does not pose a good enough threat to the whole group I think.

My cigarette fell from my mouth when I heard what Matthieu had to say.

A group of killers? On this ship? Boy, if you have any leads, you best start talkin'.

"The smoker." Pah! That's all I was to some of them. A man with a cigarette. Truth be told, perhaps that's what I deserved. I was more than a goddamned habit, that much was certain, but was the "more" anything to be celebrated? Depends who you ask. To the police chief, I was the man with the big mouth. To my wife, I was a goddamned coward, a shell of the man she married. Hell, it seemed these days the only positive recognition I could get was the boys down at the Zeus' Eagle bar.

I hoped to make more of myself here, but well, hoping and doing were two very different things. Change don't parachute down from heaven above like a gift. It's earned, it's fought for, it's the dangling carrot that keeps us going. And I meant to try my damnedest to pull that sucker offa its string.

*reaches into pocket for cigarette case, while self-consciously glancing sidelong at Anna*
*shrugs and lights one*

Seems the whole ship is a smoking room now. Heh.

I like Gumshoe. He's crazy but in a good way. Like this one guy back on the colony who lived on the streets and would sing to people as they walked past. Or really he sang at them. Like a description of them, to the tune of nursery rhymes. One time this really fat lady got mad because he called her fat, but he sung it. It was really funny!

Rin makes a good point.

since we do have so much time what the fuck is gon happen if/when the people that are deemed inactive show up and contribute some shit before the time comes to move on?

I will say this much. Hey, you took too long. It's your own fault.

We have to have the strongest team possible and those that contribute are strong. This is what counts.

This is a horrible way to make this decision. We need the crew to possess the best skill set possible to survive what is to come and complete our mission! Leaving someone for dead just because they were not able to contribute to the discussion for the first few hours, even if they have a skill set vital to our ability to accomplish our mission, is a short-sighted and narrow way of looking at things. I am not advocating for people who do not contribute at all or who post frequently with little actual content or helpfulness. However, I personally view anyone who pushes for inclusion only of those who were around at the very beginning of this phase, as having little regard for the overall wellness of the crew or its ability to complete the mission.

It was in that moment that I deemed it best to whisper something into Lionel's ear.

The broad is simply amalgamating what she's heard. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I am sorry I have not contributed much in our early days. These events have really done a number on me, and I completely understand being a part of the bottom nine. It is only fair based on my lack of input and contributions to the group, so if I am chosen to be left without a suit, do not feel bad.

I would very much like to join you all as we progress and do hope that I will be given the chance, but if not, I wish you all luck.

There is still ample time to make your mark on us, miss. The suit situation is hardly set in stone. Chin up!

*gently lifts Paige's downcast head*
