Birth Colony: Unknown asteroid (later taken to Europa Base)

Background:
Aldo was born to a small colony of settlers who had eked out a living on an asteroid. Protocol insists that all asteroid mining vessels perform a sweep for life-forms before the operation begins, however the crew on duty that day skipped it to get ahead of their schedule. The seismic event that followed drilling resulted in the colony being torn apart, and all of the colonists being killed.

Aldo and his mother were the sole survivors. The colonial atmosphere pod he was inside was breached, leaking a dangerous cocktail of chemicals into the artificial atmosphere. This made his mother dangerously ill, causing her to age uncontrollably. A week later, a passing vessel found the two of them but his mother had already aged too much. She handed over the baby and chose to die in her home.

Aldo was taken to Europa Base by the craft, the crew of which genuinely had no idea what to do with him. While they were discussing the issue, Aldo crawled away and got lost in the hubbub of the hangar. There was one particular shuttle that was drawing his attention however. Despite his young age, the logo Kayla Interplanetary was burned into his memory; the same logo on the mining ship that had destroyed his home.

As he crawled towards the ship, he was snatched up by a young girl with a cheeky smile. She spoke gently to him about how she wanted to get on board too but they'd never let them on. Carrying him to the underside of the ship, she pushed open a vent, put the young Aldo inside before climbing in herself.
