Born and raised on Callisto by one of the wealthiest families in the universe, Melvin has never known any hardship his entire life. With the family business (Schrauwen Industries) a booming success, Melvin has enjoyed all the trappings of wealth, fame and fortune.

His lifestyle consists of parties, hopping between all the best bars on Callisto and Ganymede and this hasn't helped his growth as a person. Being generally confrontational and arrogant, he is somebody who gets whatever they want. He has never worked a day in his life and doesn't plan on starting any time soon.

It was during a recent bender that he encountered Watts in a bar. The two were already well-acquainted but their meet turned into an all night drinking session. The result was a hungover Watts arriving to his mission captaining aboard Dalia somewhat late, and Melvin waking up to find himself aboard the landing shuttle, which was already well onto its mission. Unwittingly, he'd agreed to it the night before in a drunken state.
