Background:
Tesimal was one of many many children born to a wealthy industrialist on Io. His father's industry was the water trade, taking mined water from asteroids and transferring it to nearby colonies. The family wealth was tremendous, with his father even planning to set up his own orbital space station colony in which he could be "king".

These plans fell through with the collapse of the water mining trade however. As the nearby colonies of Callisto, Europa and Ganymede all gained easy access to their water supplies, mining water became a dangerous and less profitable venture. The family business struggled on but was forced into disarray. Despite this, their father still retained a great deal of land on Io and still referred to himself as "king", refusing to let go of the dream.

Tesimal as one of many children is far in line to inherit the family assets including land and flailing corporation. Even though the family wealth and industry has gone under, he still feels a need to move up in the line and has spent most of his youth desperate to appease his father who can barely remember his name.

His desperation led him to attempt to set up a trade route for water with the ice fishers on Europa, who kindly informed Tesimal that they did not own the water to sell it. This led to a fracas when thinking it was free for anybody to take, Tesimal tried to harvest it in bulk. Having been escorted to the Europa Base by the military, Tesimal was released without charge.

However before leaving for home he discovered that the Dalia, a mining vessel in space, had lost its crew. Thinking it might be possible for him to investigate, commandeer the vessel and use it to bolster his father's fleet (thus winning favour), he decided to join the crew.
