There must be some FE inside joke about hatches, as I don't understand how a normal door-like thing has made it this far.

It's all about what the people want in that moment though. And apparently with Halloween around the corner, they're feeling the dead guy.

It's an entry to a crawlspace. The only thing spooky you'll find under there are some rodent droppings or potential termite damage to your subflooring.
