I thought it was good/really good. Cinematography is indeed excellent even tho there is a lot of beige. Story is very intriguing, but wasn’t fully revealed. Parts I really liked and parts were kinda meh. It’s a weird movie, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Was pretty slow moving. And they really drove home the point that there’s a lot of sand on the planet they were on. Lol. The bad guy wasn’t very interesting but I thought Chalamet and Ferguson were both excellent in their roles. I’d give it 7.5 maybe 8. And will definitely watch the next one. |

I thought it was pretty good! Excited for the next one. Honestly it feels like this needs to at least be a trilogy

An improvement over Part One for sure, the worldbuilding + audio/visual design definitely remains the strong point and it's worth watching for that alone, but this one added some stronger characterization on top (and even some humor!)
Despite being almost 3 hours though a good amount felt a bit rushed, especially with the resolution (the Harkonnens were dispatched far too easily for how much they were built up). I still feel like this would've worked far better as a limited series, but oh well. And similar to the first movie, the ending is by far the weak point. Once again it felt more like the ending of a TV episode than the ending of a nearly 3 hour epic. You can leave things open for a sequel while still tying a bow on this particular chapter! Plenty of trilogies have done it successfully
Can't wait for mutant baby Anya Taylor-Joy in part 3 |
tl;dr better than the first but there were still enough shortcomings that I still didn't quite LOVE it, just really liked/admired it. Still an amazing theater EXPERIENCE tho and makes me wish I had an IMAX by me that's not located in a mall full of noisy 16 year olds | |

Quite good!

Better than the first one for me. I rewatched the first the night before, definitely holds up but definitely takes a bit to get off the ground. This one was nice because things were well established and they could get right into it, but they still sprinkled in a heavy dose of world building along the way
VERY surprised to see all three Harkonnens go in this one. I expected Bautista's death (which could've been a lot better, I wish him and Brolin had a longer fight), but I didn't see the Baron or Austin Butler dying coming. Especially Butler I guess? I thought he would survive their fight or it would be interrupted somehow and the two of them would have a great rematch in pt 3. I thought his character was...fine? Kinda cliche? Idk, I read that he was the next Anton Chigurh or Hans Landa or Ledger Joker. PLEASE! He licked a blade and sliced some servant's throats for no reason, cliche psychopath movie character behavior! He just didn't do enough for me
Flo and Walken were nice additions, excited to see more of them in pt 3. Also really liked Bardem in this one, he was funny. Glad (and surprised) both him and Brolin survived
Timothee was very good, nice to see him get a lot more development and show a lot more emotion. Paul's ascent (descent??) was handled well. Kinda surprised they didn't have a SPRING TEAR down Zendaya's face in that last shot! Would've been perfect?? Though I guess the last shot being her eyes welling up but NOT crying was the point, but idk I would've liked the other way. But what do I know!
I loved when he rides the worm for the first time, that scene was great. Also really liked the scene where they attack the crawler mech thing and the ship, when she shoots the guy with the rocket and then takes out the ship with one. The shot of the rocket penetrating the shield and then the blast being contained within the shield was so cool
Visuals and especially sound design were wild in Imax. I can't imaging watching this at home for the first time lol, night and day experience

Finally got to see it. Knew I had to see it in theaters and this was the last week. I am bummed I didn’t get to see it in IMAX like the first one because those visuals and the sounds were incredible.
|
Thought the movie was good not great. I agree that it would have been better as a tv series I think. Just so much jumping around. I read the books for the first movie and there were a couple parts I were bummed didn’t make the big screen but kind of understood.
|
Paul actually fighting Stilgar and then sparing him was a big moment. They kind of twisted that as not fighting in general which was okay. I also enjoyed the storyline with Paul and Jamis’ widow which was never really referenced at all, again I don’t know how it would have fit. Finally I remember Gerney and Jessica having a very complicated relationship when he returns to the scene. |
I did really like Feyd-Rautha. I didn’t hear the Ledger comparisons and I definitely wouldn’t go that far but his introduction scene was probably my favorite part of the whole movie. I really liked the extreme black/white color scheme and those ink blot fire works were sick.
Excited for Part 3 though who knows when it’ll come out. I have Dune Messiah on my book shelf so maybe I’ll pick it up and find out what’s going to happen. |
