Joe's self talk throughout the series is some of the best writing I've seen in a while.

Season 2+

I agree though Joe is a very good narrator. I like how they make things that probably shouldn’t be grey, feel grey.
"So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"

I watched season 1 and it was both brilliant and super uncomfortable. May watch S2, not sure yet.

Season 1 had much more physical stuff in it, and more wtf moments, but I liked the writing in both seasons. The dialogue, and joe's self talk.

Season 1 was an entirely different show...a good show

Season 2 felt so predictable. Every shocking twist wasn't shocking because I could predict what was about to happen 2 mins before it did.

I found both seasons pretty predictable.

Spoiler+

That said, I still liked them both. For me S1 had more "WTF moments" than S2, so it was less predictable.

Mainly S2 lacked a peach type protagonist. She made S1 so much better because it made Joe so much more grey.

The books are fantastic, and some of my favorites. The third novel, You Love Me, just came out last month and I couldn't put it down.

As far as the show, I liked season one a lot. Penn Badgley was actually decent casting for Joe. I liked Elizabeth Lail as Beck, but after reading the book, Beck's looks are consistently compared by Joe to those of 2004 Natalie Portman, circa when she stared in Closer, so a minor gripe I had was that Lail was a blonde instead of a brunette like she was in Once Upon A Time. Otherwise though, I really liked it, and it's a pretty faithful adaptation too.

Season two was interesting, I guess? I love Victoria Pedretti, but I actually think she was a terrible casting choice for Love. In Hidden Bodies, the second book in the series on which season 2 is loosely based, Love is described as like this platinum blonde Hollywood bombshell type; I basically imagined Margot Robbie in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The series diverges very quickly from Hidden Bodies too. I personally preferred the book, but I think that the show took things in an interesting direction. Also the Quinn twins are in their mid-thirties, and Forty is described as looking like Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Joe's monologues are actually creepy AF and much more explicit in the books.

Season three comes out soon. It'll be quite different from You Love Me I'd imagine. I'll still watch though!

Caroline Kepnes is working on a fourth book as well. I highly recommend the audiobooks narrated by Santino Fontana.

I read the first two books. I would like to read the third.
I only watched the first season because I had read the book. But I don't plan to watch anything past that.

Season 2 may not be as good as Season 1 but it's definitely quality TV
