Everybody has something to hide. We can’t just expose our secrets to the world. That’s how we get hurt. That’s how we risk hurting other people. We have to decide how much we let out and keep the truth to ourselves.

It was late in the evening... but wasn't it always for him? This was his favorite time. The quiet time when the hospital wasn't abuzz with activity. He had finished for the night. He walked to the lobby entrance but something inside him made him stop and take a last look. *sigh* After a few moments, he turned to head out. Just before he reached the doors, someone stumbled in. His skilled eye assessed them in seconds. They appeared to be staggering a little, would've probably looked a bit drunk to most people... but not him. He recognized an injured person when he saw one.
"Here, it's okay, take it easy," he used his calming voice. "What seems to be the problem?"
The person was a bit hunched over but then straightened up a bit. And looked him in the eyes.
Recognition registered and he looked puzzled. "Are you okay?"
The other person nodded, and then smiled. He smiled back tentatively.
And then, he saw it. Something in their right hand. But, as soon as he saw it, the same hand shot out toward his chest. Stunned, he staggered back a couple of feet, then fell to the ground, his legs giving out. He put his hand to his heart. He felt like he'd been shocked!
He looked up at the taser in the hand of his assailant. He knew exactly what was happening to his body. He was going into cardiac arrest. He, of course, knew exactly what to do in cases like this... the problem was he could barely move... and he felt himself going... he knew he was going...
The last thing he saw before he closed his eyes...

He couldn't wait to get out of this place. Yeah, he worked his ass off all day, but he loved it. Now it was time for play! He smiled as he thought of what was waiting for him.
He took the stairs two at a time leading down to the lobby. But... what was this? Was that a body by the entrance?? Yes! But, who was it? As he got closer, he knew. He realized exactly who it was. He ran over and knelt over the still form. He reached out to check, to see if it was too late. He was so engrossed in the scene before him that he didn't hear footsteps... until they were right behind him.
He looked up, expecting to find someone who had come to help. "Hey! Quick! We need a crash cart! STAT! We need to get him to the O.R." He turned back to his patient. When he didn't hear any movement behind him, he was irritated. "Dude! Did you hear me?!? MOVE!" He turned back around in frustration. Just in time to see something crashing down onto his head. After the second blow, everything went black.
His lifeless body slumped over the other lifeless body...

It’s scary to reveal everything about ourselves. Fear makes us hold ourselves back. Is that so wrong? Maybe, probably. But still, it helps to be a little sneaky, a little protective. It’s not safe to just blurt out all our secrets. We can’t just lay all the truth out there, expose ourselves to God and everybody. Cause once the truth’s out, we have to face it ourselves.
