Kingsport.

The name harks back to its founding in 1639, when colonists from Southern England and the Channel Islands sought to create a new town in the Puritan tradition. These colonists, not wanting to ignite the wrath of the House of Stuart, chose the name to honor his majesty Charles I. From a small village, Kingsport became a bustling port town known for shipbuilding. But something else always haunted Kingsport from the beginning, though whether it was from the dark waves that crested the reef in the bay or the sometimes faint eldritch glow in the steeples or the ominous clouds that seemed to hang preternaturally over the church steeples, one could never be sure where the feeling came from.

Kingsport has always seemed to invite the mysterious and the evil. In 1692, four witches were hung in the town square, but still the shadow never left- only retreated. Some tell of the ancient Festivals where the Puritan folk shed their modest clothing and worshiped a god far older and more twisted than that one hung on a tree in Golgotha. Some also speak of terrible rites still done yearly in the catacombs under the lonely churchyards, or of mysterious faces with bulging eyes on heads seen out near the reef in the bay. Zadok Allen could tell you more. Or the Terrible Old Man on Water Street. But few seek out their counsel. And now it may be too late to help.

It has been a year since a great evil plunged the town into madness. A year since the Festival ran its course and the townfolk were able to return to normal. Normal in such a town with its ancient vanes and steeples, ridgepoles and chimney-pots, wharves and small bridges, willow-trees and graveyards; endless labyrinths of steep, narrow, crooked streets, and dizzy church-crowned central peak that time durst not touch; ceaseless mazes of colonial houses piled and scattered at all angles and levels like a child’s disordered blocks; antiquity hovering on grey wings over winter-whitened gables and gambrel roofs; fanlights and small-paned windows one by one gleaming out in the cold dusk to join Orion and the archaic stars. And against the rotting wharves the sea pounded; the secretive, immemorial sea out of which the people had come in the elder time.


Once again, the eldritch light shines brighter in the steeples of the town. Once again, a howling can be heard in the darkened wood or in the graveyards with their leafless, skeletal trees. The Festival is coming again; the Shadow is falling, and it is up to every individual to work to stop it before all are swept up in an orgy of blood and insanity. It is time to use the tools of our ancestors- to bring out the rope to the Gallows tree, to stack wood for burning in the Square. Let all who would fight the Darkness come now.

Let's hold that festival that we held last year to celebrate guys, you know, the one which plunged the town into evil and darkness? Yes, it will be fabulous, and I'm sure nothing could go wrong.

How about we start with a good old fashioned witch hunt?

Now, I've compiled a handy list. Witches tend to be found amongst the women folk. According to the last census there are only two women left in town...gee, we must have really had a field day last year :\

The two womenfolk are Angi and Rose. I propose we do the usual test and lynch one of them...if they survive, they are a witch. If they die, they are innocent. Foolproof!

If not either of the womenfolk, we should lynch Brian for his sinful ways.

But for now, ##Lynch Angi

I have a foolproof idea. It goes something like this:

V: There are ways of telling whether she is a witch.
P1: Are there? Well then tell us! (tell us)
V: Tell me... what do you do with witches?
P3: Burn'em! Burn them up! (burn burn burn)
V: What do you burn apart from witches?
P1: More witches! (P2 nudge P1)
(pause)
P3: Wood!
V: So, why do witches burn?
(long pause)
P2: Cuz they're made of... wood?
V: Gooood.
(crowd congratulates P2)
V: So, how do we tell if she is made of wood?
P1: Build a bridge out of her!
V: Ahh, but can you not also make bridges out of stone?
P1: Oh yeah...
V: Does wood sink in water?
P1: No
P3: No. It floats!
P1: Let's throw her into the bog! (yeah yeah ya!)
V: What also floats in water?
P1: Bread
P3: Apples
P2: Very small rocks
(V looks annoyed)
P1: Cider
P3: Grape gravy
P1: Cherries
P3: Mud
King: A Duck!
(all look and stare at king)
V: Exactly! So, logically...
P1(thinking): If she ways the same as a duck... she's made of wood!
V: And therefore,

All those witch theories are crazy. You have to be married to one for several years before you can really tell if she's a witch.

I'm pretty suspicious of all the votes that suddenly piled up on me. Everyone on my lynch train looks shady right now
