Welcome back to Kingsport, MA, a beautiful colonial village overlooking the Atlantic. Visitors drive through each year, noting the faded gabled houses and the bright Victorian architecture. But visitors don't stay for long. For something lurks beneath the archaic roofs of this fishing village. The villagers still speak of the four witches lynched here at the time of the Salem Trials. When darkness falls, the church spires seem to glow with an eerie green light. Strange howls and hoots echo through the twisted, winding streets where no one dares to venture after dark. And if you ask the Terrible Old Man of Water Street, he'll tell you of the robed night visitors with webbed feet and large eyes. And villagers are wary, as one year ago a madness swept the town in a orgy of madness and violence that the town is only now recovering from.

It is because of the one year anniversary that you have all banded together- investigators looking into these strange happenings. Your investigations have uncovered a cycle of evil, one that even now grows as the murderous anniversary approaches. To avoid the cycle of destruction, you have decided that the Trials of your ancestors may be the best way to battle for the survival of your town. Maybe a cleansing fire can help push back the Shadow over Kingsport.

As noted, this game will be a Lovecraft-inspired game, utilizing some of the characters and mythology developed by Lovecraft and others since. The game will be similar to one held at GLB but with a few changes that should keep it fresh and surprising. One mechanism that I am going to potentially experiment with in this game is a "sanity" score- each player will have a sanity rating and, depending on what happens to them, what actions they take, and what they witness, their sanity may go up or down. Certain role abilities may be effected by the sanity score- like an insane watcher may get less reliable testimony. I haven't worked it all out, but it should be fun.

He's the father of "Weird Fiction" and is referenced as an influence by many horror writers to this day. Many people recognize Cthulhu or the Necronomicon, two of his "creations". He created his own pantheon of "gods" but rather than good and evil, these gods are ancient and alien and have as much relation to us as we do to ants.
