It was just a normal day in the Superstore on November 27th, 2015. In fact, the store seemed to be running quite well. Many customers were Christmas shopping, while others were there for simple necessities. Little did they know how valuable these things would become in the next few days.
Around 4 PM, a large explosion was heard outside the Superstore. Then another. Soon enough, the building began to shake. Other buildings collapsed around the store, which had been hastily built in an industrial center.
A few tried to leave, but discovered that the doors were sealed shut. There was no cell reception. The internet was frighteningly absent. What was going on?! The diverse group of people waited at the restaurant built into the Superstore, Golden Arches.
After an hour of waiting (and eating too many burgers), a mangled body was found in the men's bathroom. His wounds were clearly not from the explosion.
There's a group of people inside the Superstore who are responsible for the outside attacks. It's up to the shoppers to figure out who they are and bring them to justice.
Will the Black Friday Mafia continue their reign of destruction, or will the innocent shoppers be able to bring them down?
What is Alias Mafia?
Well, first, let's get to the alias part. You'll be creating a new character, or "alias" to play as. You're given creative control over this character. You'll essentially become that character, creating a biography and providing us a picture of him or her. Some people will focus on making their character unique and in-depth, whereas others may choose to play a character more similar to themselves. Regardless, you become that identity. If accepted, you'll create an AIM name and forum. You will be expected to log onto that AIM name daily (though, we understand real life things coming up) and converse with your fellow players, whether in group chat or individually.
Note: It is strictly AGAINST the rules to reveal yourselves to other players. It strips the anonymity out of the game, and since you may very well know one another, it could alter opinions regarding the player's own alignment. People will be able to "accuse" other people of their real identities. If correct, a penalty will be enforced against the revealed player.
It may be helpful to look over other games of Alias Mafia to understand how immersive the experience can be.

Another note: When logging onto your alias AIM name, it may be helpful to not be online in your main name. If your connection is bad or your computer is terrible, you both may sign off at the same time and thus reveal your alias.
What is Mafia?
IF you've never played mafia before, Mafia is a game that pits an uninformed Majority (the town) against an Informed Minority (The Mafia).
The goal of the town is to eliminate the mafia. They accomplish this by convening once an episode to vote a suspected mafioso out. The vote is usually referred to as a Lynch. The town wins via voting out all of the mafioso. Once this has been achieved, the town will be declared the winner and will be safe once more.
The goal of the mafia is to survive long enough to control the town; this is usually when they equal or surpass the number of townspeople left in the game. At this point the mafia openly attacks the town and the game is over. They aim to accomplish this task via secretly voting out a towns person once an episode, otherwise known as a murder, and by avoiding having their own voted out at the lynching.
You will play the game over ndim and AIM. There will be a general discussion forum where players can discuss the game, post suspicions, cases, votes, etc. In addition, if you are mafia, you will have your own private forum with other mafioso. AIM is also critical. There will be a chat room running at all times that you are encouraged to enter on your AIM name. In addition, you are encouraged to speak with everyone individually.
In addition to the basics, roles are sometimes given out. These roles can help the town or the mafia. Not all of you will get roles.

For the sake of our theme, town will be deemed innocent shoppers and mafia will be deemed Black Fridays (the group taking over the SuperStore). Lynches will be referred to as Checkouts, and Mafia kills will be referred to as Rollbacks.
