He stood in his hotel room, looking through the sliding glass doors toward the balcony. The door was open so the breeze flowed in but he only went as far as the slider. He never ventured out onto the balcony itself.

He shook his head. With all the killing and mayhem that was going on, maybe it was time for a change? Maybe he should go out there. Try to live a little! Life was short - as people were so fond of saying.

Rationally he knew the balcony was safe. It wasn't like the railing would give way and he would fall to his death, right? The fear was all in his head. He knew this but it was still hard to take the leap, so to speak.

But, if not now, when? He was tired of being so afraid. He would do it! He took a step, and then another. He was standing on the balcony! Just outside the sliding glass doors, but he was outside! He had done it! He smiled to himself. This wasn't bad. It was nice out here. He might even step up to the railing and look over. Why not?

And so, he gathered up the courage, took a few more steps and he was there! He was actually standing at the railing looking out at the beautiful view! He was about to congratulate himself but, before he got the chance, he felt a presence behind him. He started to turn but it was too late. Hands were upon him and he was being pushed.. over the edge.

He fell... slowly... it seemed to take forever... to his death.
