I think it’s hard to SAVE the game iirc in those old games

The “I Want To Play” is in no particular order for the most part as well. And I haven’t researched all of them just a running list

Of the ones you haven't played:

Donkey Kong Country Returns and Tropical Freeze are two of the best platformers I've ever played. Both in the combination of graphics and also difficult. They definitely aren't cake walks like the other Mario games.

Impossible Lair was a lot of fun too. I enjoyed it a lot more than the original Yooka Laylee (though it is very different). The overworld gimmick was a lot of fun too. Highly recommend.

Celeste was really good as well. But be prepared for a challenge. That game was super hard. Especially if you want to play the alternate "b side and c side" levels. Thankfully there are lots of checkpoints so you never get too discouraged.

Paper Mario (and Paper Mario TTYD) aren't platformers at all but two of my favorite games of all time. Great stories, fun RPG gameplay but not too difficult if you don't want to get into the weeds.

Really solid list I am sure will keep you busy.

If you play on the Switch virtual console for some of the really old SNES and NES games you can do save states. Makes it easier to save the games that way.

I have now completed Rayman Legends

AND

Psychonauts 1

AND

Max: Curse of the Brotherhood.

All of them were really fun. Rayman Legends was incredible. Psychonauts 1 does not live up to #2, but was still an excellent game. I love the story and characters and collectibles. Max Curse of the Brotherhood was a fun quickie platformer/puzzler that was definitely different than your usual platformer. It was free on Xbox Game Pass and I liked the gimmick.

Currently playing SpongeBob: Battle for Bikini Bottom haha. Because I needed a break from the challenging games and this one had a lot of oddly good recs.

You're not the first to say that about Donkey Kong. Very consistently high ratings. Similarly with Impossible Lair and Celeste. Hearing a ton of good things.

What would you consider Paper Mario? I don't really know where to put them. Orogami King definitely wasn't a platformer but I don't know what else to call it. There were definitely enough similarities that I said fuck it and added it. I also added Glover to the way bottom of the list of games I have already beaten, but that was forever ago, and I remember raging a lot at the controls.

The original Paper Marios are a lot different (and generally considered better) than Oragami King. It’s a turn based RPG.

Super Paper Mario the third game (Wii) is closer to a platformer and less RPG elements which is also fun.

Oh ok so you are saying Origami King needs to be removed from the list then?

I plan on ranking the games I want to play in order soon too. haha.

Just because I watched so many videos about them all recently, definitely some stick out more than others.

A Hat In Time seems fun

Xbox Game Pass has a few free options. Super Lucky’s Tale and Fe in particular.

Probably gonna do Fe next. For FE!

I beat super meat boy.

And super Lucky’s tale which was so relaxing in comparison

I’ve almost beaten Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair BUT….. this final level is the hardest level I’ve ever played in any video game. I’m straight up rage quitting and almost deleted the game lol. I keep coming back tho. Will try again. Ugh

Fuck yes I love platformers!!! And they seem like the least popular of games I like so I love hearing other people talk about them.

All of the Crash games are fantastic. I was a playstation kid, so they have a ton of nostalgia for me. 4 definitely holds up with the original trilogy. Would recommend playing them in order since you gain abilities in the later games, so it feels like a nice progression.

Also a big fan of Hollow Knight, Ori, Shovel Knight (didn't expect to like it as much as I did, still need to play the DLC), Celeste, Impossible Lair (although I haven't finished the last level yet either lol), LIMBO/INSIDE, and the Portals.

Been slowly working my way through the older Mario games since I didn't grow up with Nintendo and have been enjoying those. Tropical Freeze and Hat in Time have been on my wish list for ages.

Additional recs:
-Braid (has some really cool time mechanics and a surprisingly good story)
-Yoku's Island Express (metroidvania pinball that was way more fun than it had any right to be)
-Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom (haven't played yet but it looks good)
-not a platformer but Return of the Obra Dinn feels similar enough in vibes to what you enjoy that I'd recommend checking it out

oooooh awesome!!!

YES wtf why is this final level of Yooka Laylee Impossible Lair so..... IMPOSSIBLE!??!?! I haven't given up yet but I'm raging hard and want to. You gotta try Super Meat Boy, Ender!!! You will love it.

I actually JUST downloaded all 4 Crash Badicoot games and all 3 Spyro games and A Hat In Time last night because there's a massive sale. Crazy you just mentioned these games haha. I'm excited to play them!

Celeste and Shovel Knight are high on my list to play soon.

Did you beat Hollow Knight? I had to give up on it. So hard.
