nav visiting spin and calling him town after that seems pretty likely, especially as a way to gain cred, which is why he was so insistent. Then the next night he was probably recruited by picking Josh because lets all be honest here they were very obvious

then he's not gonna claim the person he actually visited if he wants to keep up the charade. If that person later dies it blows up his hider claim. So he'd pick someone else to claim to have visited, and as he is my #1 fan I'm the obvious person to say he visited instead.
