I debated on a 5 or 6 for this. When I was talking to my roommate about it, I called it an "okay" movie and that is what finally pushed me down to a five. I thought the acting was there but none of the performances really blew me away. The storyline was very typical of movies like this which was unfortunate. I might have enjoyed it more if I spent less time watching LGBT movies that follow this same up and down.

I thought it just became a bit repetitive with her threatening to leave. I didn't hate it and I wouldn't say I hated it. I just didn't love it as much as I thought I would and there are other Bleecker Street movies I'd much rather watch than this one.

The only moment that really stuck out for me was the funeral scene. I think it was done really well and the Freedom sermon-esque moment was pretty good.

Did you get all the Jewish themes and meanings? I really didn’t so it made the movie more slow and have no meaning for me

Watch it anyways! Everyone has a different taste in movies, you might love it!

This was a tough one to rate.

All three main actors are solid, but McAdams shines the brightest to me. She says so much with such subtlety, it's wonderful.

The writing is very strong. You learn a lot about Esti, Ronit, and Dovid just through small scenes of dialogue and the way they act around each other. The pacing in the beginning is slow but you sense a build up that eventually delivers in the end (mostly). The film does a great job at painting everyone with a fair brush. No one is the villain here, just three individuals who have different wants and goals.

I'm not sure how I felt about the ending. We get such a powerful confrontation when Esti reveals that she's pregnant and doesn't want to be with Dovid, and then 10 minutes later all three characters are hugging outside the church? Ronit asks Esti to live with her but then Esti stays with Dovid even after Dovid "gives her freedom"? This made the third act feel very rushed and left me somewhat unsatisfied.

I gave it a 7 but after reflecting on it some more, I think a 6 is better suited. Can someone fix it please? :)

The acting made it really. I thought I was gonna come in here and say that Weisz stole the show...then I was thinking McAdams did...........then I was thinking DOVID did. No one stole it really, they were all equally really great. Best bit of acting was the sermon scene from Dovid, also the best scene. That's BILLY from Jurassic Park III, I knew I recognized him but was still shocked to learn it was him. He was so convincing here

I do think it needed some more OOMPH somewhere though. Agreed with Josh that it did seem to have the paint by numbers typical ups and downs that you might get with a movie like this which is too bad considering how talented everyone is
