So I'm finally planning a big solo trip for myself. I've never done this before. Every time I plan a big trip, I have to drag someone with me for the experience. But with some vacation time coinciding with my work bonus/tax return this year, I figured I'd do something for myself for once.
I road tripped to NY with my dad and stepmom a few years ago and it was amazing, one of the happiest experiences I ever had even though I bankrupted myself. But I've never really been further west than the border of Nevada, so I'm going to head to CA! Currently what I have in mind is this:
Drive to Vegas after work Friday, stay one day. Not going to any casinos but it's on the way and I've never been anyway. Thinking of just going to a Penn and Teller show or something like that and then off to California on Sunday morning.
Drive to Yucca Valley, stay for two days. Found a really nice, cheap Airbnb there. Hitting up Joshua Tree for sure.
Drive to San Diego, stay for two days. Then another two days at Santa Monica. And a super long drive home.
Solo tripping is kind of a scary thing for me because I'm so introverted and awkward when I don't have someone I know with me, but it's something I feel like I need to do for myself. |

oh hey forgot about this thread
last year I definitely upped my traveling and had my first two big international trips, a two-week trip to Japan w/ some friends and a five day trip to Germany with Papa J. Definitely hoping to do more this year, got a few potential ones in the WORKS. Both international and domestic are on the table, I've been to a lot of the States but most of that was as a kid/teen, so I'm definitely due. Especially the national parks, would love to go back to Yellowstone. And maybe even check out Moab.....??

Last September I did my first solo trip to London, UK. First time out of North America. I stayed for a week, saw the Man United/Arsenal game, hung out with the Arsenal fans after, did some of the traditional London sightseeing stuff. I did the Wembley Stadium tour, visited some family and friends who lived there, did Stonehenge, and Bath trip, saw Abbey Road and saw some other sights.
This year, I'm going solo again to Europe, going to Berlin, Warsaw, Krakow, Budapest, Vienna, Prague and back to Germany (Frankfurt). This will be a 2 week vacation in May.
Later in the year I'm traveling to Chicago to watch the Jays take on the Cubbies and hang out for the weekend.

if you have time, definitely would recommend a day trip to Heidelberg when you're in Frankfurt (it's about 90 min away by train). Frankfurt has some cool stuff too but is much heavier on the modern city side than the historical side

I have a day and half in Frankfurt so I may not be able to do this. This is good to know and I will add it to my list if possible.

I've been having THE ITCH to travel for the last few years. GOT THAT WANDERLUST! Mostly i've just been keeping to PA and some trips to NYC and Connecticut, and I'm heading down to a wedding in Maryland in May and probably heading to upstate NY for the eclipse but its not enough i say!
So this year I'm saving up and making a big solo trip a priority. Also gonna finally get my passport after dragging my feet on it for all these years, tho rn i'm planning more for a trip out west instead of internationally. | d ( i n o s r o a ) r
