Official thread for the albums you love/are looking forward to for this year!
I'll start off with today's exciting release of Beach House's 7th album '7'. Straight up some of the best stuff I've heard. Period. It's fucking amazing! Get to see them as well in August which I am looking forward to. Though they keep their typical dream-pop/alternative exterior, they are using a lot of elements of different genres as well which is super exciting. I hear a lot of influences from shoegaze pioneers My Bloody Valentine's landmark 1991 album 'Loveless', as well as similar instrumentation of Slowdive's debut album 'Just for a Day'. It's an album that pays homage to various shoegaze giants yet remains it's own unique work. The transition between 'Dark Spring' and 'Pay No Mind' is breathtaking and I sincerely hope they'll play those 2 tracks after each other once I see them! <3
Janelle released an a cinematic picture to accompany her album about two-ish weeks ago. The album has gotten rave reviews from critics for being her best work yet and being very Prince-esque. She touches on a lot of heavy subjects including her own insecurities and a bit of America's current political climate. VERY good if you give it a chance but it is almost all explicit so watch out for that.
I don't want to knock anyone's musical tastes, so I'll just say you guys can have those previous ones, and I'll instead be excited about the release of 'And Justice for None' by Five Finger Death Punch. These guys have been knocking it out of the park for 10 years now, and from what I've heard so far, this album will be equally awesome.
This is my current favorite album. I've been waiting, like, forever for UMO to come out with a new album and this album is such a good blend of what they've released previously without going overboard in one way or the other. It's got a really psychedelic and timeless quality to it. You can hear influences of Prince, Jimi Hendrix, etc. All of the songs grow on you within one or two listens and this album really is a masterpiece. I encourage you all to just check it out! I love music, it's very special to me. UMO makes good music.
Bazzi released a (?) Soft R&B album, I guess I would call it. It's a mixture of pop and R&B which is a genre I never knew that I would really need in my life. I like to describe his music like if The Weeknd had a decaf version and I honestly feel like that is the only real way to describe him but I'm not sure how far that description is going to get with this crowd.
My favorite singer/songwriter Danny Brewer recently released his new album "Teeming". He funded the project via Kickstarter, and as a backer I received 2 copies of the album and he'll cover a song of my choice soon.
I can't believe how talented this guy is. His new album is so so good! Been on repeat in my car ever since it came out.
I wish I could share the song "Long Shot", it's my favorite, but there's no youtube or anything out yet. There is an acoustic version of "Wonderfully Made" though:
Looking ahead in 2018, I am kind of excited for next week's new Snow Patrol release. These first two songs they released were p good.
Folly & The Hunter will probably release something new too this year.
Also gonna give Damien Jurado a listen.

I heard one of his songs on the pop station and it wasn't too bad. Had a decent beat to it.
His album is probably one of my favorites released this year. There isn't a song on it that I always feel like skipping which is a good sign.
Really? That's impressive these days. I haven't bought music in at least 10 years. A Kanye album was the last one I bought. (:
I got Spotify Premium which has stopped me from buying an specific music in quite some time. It almost seems pointless nowadays when you can find almost everything online.

Yeah, why pay for music you want, when you can pay a monthly fee and get a whole bunch of stuff you don't!
